Auditoria de dades per una empresa local.

Una empresa local ha demanat una auditoria de dades per a coneixer les dades que un treballador hagi pogut manipular, en un cert temps o pugui manipular en un temps futur.

Es posen en marxa unes configuracions i unes aplicacions que permeten recollir el rastre.

Lidl Battery Charger Repair

Tinc un carregador de bateries del Lidl, un Ultimate Speed ULG 3.8 A1 que te unes prestacions molt bones:

Carregador tri-mode amb tres funcions:
Regenera
Carrega a corrent constant
Desulfata
Carrega bateries de 6V i de 12V
Carrega bateries de cotxe a 3.8Ah
Carrega bateries de moto a 0.8Ah
Pot carregar bateries de gel a 14,4V

De vegades no funciona, i com que és de procedència xinesa, he pensat que l'error sol ser més en la qualitat del producte que no pas en el disseny. Si alguna cosa no agrada a la gent és que no carrega bateries excessivament descarregades, però és que una bateria excessivament descarregada tampoc es carrega bé.

Efectivament: tot i que sembla que l'error estigui en el circuït de detecció de la bateria, el problema està el el switch de selecció de funció. Comprovat amb un Téster.

Feina senzilla: desoldar i soldar un recanvi. Ha tornar a funcionar com nou!

I have a Lidl Ultimate Speed ULG 3.8 A1 Battery Charger. It has some amazing features for the price:

3-mode automatic charger
Regenerates lead plates
Constant Current Charge
Desulfatation function.
Charges 6V and 12V batteries
Works with car batteries (max 3.8Ah charge rate)
Works with motorcycle batteries (max 0.8Ah charge rate)
Works with Gel batteries (14.4V)

Sometimes it does not work. Since it is Made in China, the fault uses to be in the parts quality, not in the design itself. People uses to blame this charger because it refuses to charge a severely discharged battery, but a severely discharged battery will not recharge with much success.

The battery detection circuit could be faulty... or the mode selection switch may be nonworking. Bad parts quality, remember? I checked with a multimeter and the switch was frozen.

Easy job: desolder, find a spare part and resolder. Hopefully working again!

Project for a wide area Wifi campus for a local business.

Customer requirements analysis: several buildings in different parts of Girona will require a Wifi coverage. Not a high bandwith nor a high reliability setup, but needs to be secure.
Business is well known in Girona and has very good reputation. Wifi setup must be up to this.
Technical support available for this is null, so must be robust, a central administration point will be preferred and remote administration is a must.

Challenge an engineer. Repta a un enginyer. RC Nitro Car

1. Challenge an engineer to keep it motivated. Repta un enginyer per a tenir-lo motivat.

Ja sabeu que m'agrada trastejar, aprendre coses. Aquesta vegada això no té res a veure amb electrònica o Informàtica o Robòtica. M'han portat un cotxe RC de Nitro (de gasolina que en diuen) per a veure si l'arreglo. És molt vell i porta anys parat.

De gasolina hi he remenat, però de nitro no. Comparteixen amb els motors clàssics que tenen pistó i biela, i un carburador, però res més. Bujies d'encandescència? Sense xispa? Sense sistema elèctric?Així doncs, toca informar-se.

You know I like messing with hardware. This time there is no hardware, no software, no computers, no robotics. Today somebody brought me a RC nitro car to see if I can get back to life. It's about 20 years old and it's been sitting for very long.

I understand petrol engines, but these work with nitromethane. They have a piston, a rod and a carburetor, but the rest is not familiar to me. Glow plugs? No spark? No Electricity?. Time gather some info.

2. Nitro engines. Motors Nitro.

Funcionen per compressió, no hi ha xispa, com els motors diesel. Però per a fer ignició necessiten un punt calent dins de la cambra de combustió que és el filament d'una bujia d'incandescència. Quan el motor està fred, cal un voltatge per a encendre la bujía. Quan el motor està calent, el fil de la bujia es manté incandescent per el funcionament del motor. Aquest fil incandescent és el que permet, juntament amb a compressió, la ignició del combustible,

El combustible és Metanol + nitrometà 16% + oli. Hi ha moltes receptes per Internet. Jo l'he comprat fet de can Merlin a Interkits. El motor funciona amb cicle de 2 temps. Es carbura el combustible amb un primitiu carburador i entra al motor pel carter a través d'una vàlvula rotativa. Puja a la cambra de combustió a través dels transfers, que formen un buidat Schnürle, es comprimeix, s'igniciona amb el filament, explota i surt per l'escape. Poden pujar a 20.000RPM o més.

They work due to autoignition, like a diesel engine. To autoignite they need compression and a hot spot inside the combustion chamber. When the engine is cold you need a glow plug powered from a portable NiCD battery. When the engine is hot the glow plug wire makes the hot spot required.

Fuel used is Metanol + nitromethane 16% + oil. There are a lot of recipes for the DIY. I got Merlin brand can from Interkits. The engine is two strokes. The fuel is mixed with air in a carburetor. The mixture reaches the engine through a rotative valve to the crankcase. The flows through the ports to the combustion chamber. It gets compressed, the wire in the glow plug helps to ignite and blows. Then makes his way out through the exhaust port.

3. SIN YIH 15ZX

El primer cotxe que he tocat és un Sin Yih, un kit 1070, escala 1:10. Porta un motor SinYih 15ZX de 2cc. La bujia estava renegrida i el filament bastant contaminat. El motor té bona compressió. El carburador té una mena de goma a l'interior, restes de combustible sec.

First car I've got my hands on it is a Sin Yih No1070 scale 1/10. The engine is a SinYih 15ZX. 2cc. Glow plug was dirty. Engine has good compression. Carburetor has some gummy residue inside.

Aquest carburador té 3 ajustos: altes rpm, baixes rpm i ralenti:

Altes RPM: No sé les voltes enrera que cal donar per a començar a ajustar. He llegit gent que demana 3 o 4 voltes: és impossible doncs l'agulla es desencaixa. A mí m'ha funcionat bé 1,5 voltes enrera des de tancat del tot.
Baixes RPM: La millor ha sigut 3.5 voltes enrera des de tancat completament. És el cargol que hi ha a la manivela del gas.
Ralentí: Aproximadament el reglatge d'orígen de 1mm ja és correcte, una mica menys i tot. He fet servir una broca de 1mm per a fer l'ajust.

This carb has 3 screws to adjust.

High RPM: I don't know the default setting, I couldn't find it in Internet. Some people talk about 3 to 4 turns out but this is nonsense because 3.5 turns out gets the needle out of the thread. The best I could find was 1.5 turns out after some testing.
Low RPM: The best setting I could find was 3.5 turns out. The screw is in the gas lever.
Idle screw: The default setting of about 1mm is Ok. Use a 1mm drill to make the adjustment.

L'embrague apareix en bon estat.

Clutch is in good working shape.

4: KYOSHO GT12S-CR

El segon cotxe amb el que he jugat és un conegut Kyosho Sandmaster mk2 que porta un motor Kyosho GT12S-CR

Second car I've been playing around is the well known Kyosho Sandmaster mk2 that carries a Kyosho GT12S-CR

Apareix amb els mateixos síntomes de brutícia que el primer, i amb la bujia fosa. Bona compresió. El carburador apareix amb l'agulla buta. Caldrà desmuntar també.

It is dity too and the glow plug is blown. Good compression. Carburetor appears with gummy residue in the adjustment needle. Will require some cleaning.

L'embrague està en bon estat.

Clutch is in good working shape.

5. Bugies. Glow Plugs

Hi ha diverses graduacions per a les bugies. Jo he escollit un grau mig. Les de la marca OS Engines les marquen amb el número 8.

Les he comprat a Vilajuiga a http://www.rchobbysxavi.com/, que sembla ser l'única botiga que tenen coses per aquí a la vora. Tothom ha tancat.

There are different types of glow plugs. I've got the standard ones, not too hot, not too cold. OS Engines brand stamp a number 8 on them.

Purchased at http://www.rchobbysxavi.com/, that the only shop that I could find near me. All other shops closed business.

6: Other issues. Altres coses.

Als cotxes els faltaven diversos elements com filtres, tubo de silicona, tornilleria. Son coses que cal comprar.

Filtre d'aire: OS Engines model 102.
Tubo de silicona diàmetre 3.
Servo espatllat: Futaba S3003
Joc de maniveles de sortida del Futaba: creu de 4 puntes i estrella de 6.
Varilles vàries i fetes a mida.
Retentors per al varillatge
Molles per el varillatge. Permet no forçar el carburador quan el servo recula la manivela per a frenar.
Un portapiles al que se li ha soldat el connector adequat.

Una vegada netejat el dipòsit, carburador i altres mecanismes, recanviat totes les peces, ajustats tots els cargols, refet el varillatge, aquí tenim el resultat: funcionen! ara he d'aprendre a conduïr.

Repte aconseguit!

Some futaba attachments and linkages. X shaped attachment and * star shaped attachment.
Some axles and pulleys.
Some axle stoppers.
Springs for the axles. Prevents stressing the carb lever when pulling to brake.
One replacement battery pack.

One cleaned the tank and carburetor, replaced all worn, broken or missing parts, make all the adjustment, built new axles and pulleys and so, they both got back to life! now I need to learn to drive!

Goal achieved!

LaCie Network Space 1 disk replacement.

Fa un temps vaig retirar un NAS (Network Attached Storage) que estava fet malbé de diversos costats, en vam aprofitar el que vam poder i la caixa va quedar per casa perquè porta un linux embedded interessant.

Some time ago I was given a NAS (Network Attached Storage) that was shot (different malfunctions). We striped it and recycled all the useable parts. I kept the enclosure since it had an interesting linux embedded.

Vaig estar llegint a diverses pàgines com intentar revivir-lo i no era senzill: aquest aparell porta un firmware en un filesystem gravat al disc. Si el disc es mor, perds també tot el software que fa funcionar l'aparell.

I read a lot about how to recover it, but it was not easy: this device uses the internal disk to store the firmware and the filesystem that holds the operating system. If the disk is shot, the operating system is lost.

2: Disassembly. Desmuntatge.

No té cargols, ni es veu cap lloc per on es pugui desmuntar. Hi ha un tutorial al youtube sobre com es fa :-). Bàsicament cal posar unes xapes en sis llocs estratègics per a desbloquejar les sis pestanyes que bloquegen la tapa. Jo he fet servir sis tapes de slots de targeta PCI.

No screws visible at all. There is a youtube tutorial about how to disassemble: you need six sheets of metal to unlock the six plastic tabs that keep the cover in place. I used six PCI card slot covers.

A dins hi ha un disc dur standard de 3.5" SATA que es pot desmuntar amb 4 cargols.

There is a standard 3.5" SATA disk drive inside. You can safely remove using 4 screws.

3 Disk Replacement. Recanvi del disc.

Abans de posar un disc SATA nou, cal preparar-lo i copiar-li el sistema operatiu.

Per això caldrà connectar el disc SATA a un ordinador, (jo he fet servir un adaptador SATA USB extern) i fer-li les següents operacions:

Fabricar un pen drive de Clonezilla. És molt fàcil a través del TUXBOOT. Té totes les eines que necessitatem: FDISK, PARTIMAGE, DD i MKFS.EXT3
Bootar un ordinador amb el Clonezilla, posar el teclat com convé i sortir al shell.
sudo -s per a guanyar accés a root
connectar el disc sata al usb i esperar 30 segons a que el detecti. A mí me l'ha detectat al /dev/sdc
Particionament:
fdisk /dev/sdc
New - Extended Partition - 1 - Starting at 2048, + 1G (Fer una partició1 extesa de 1Gbyte)
New - Primary Partition - 2 - Starting on toqui, fins al final del disc. (Fer la partició de dades fins al final del disc, provat amb 160Gb, 500Gb i 1Tb; diuen que el màxim és 2Tb)
New - logical - 5 - Starting on toqui, + 128M (Això serà la partició de Linux Swap de 128Mb)
New - Logical - 6 - Starting on toqui, +8M (Diuen que és el uboot / PPCBoot )
New - Logical - 7 - Starting on toqui, +8Mb (Aquest és el sistema operatiu original del processador ARM; aquesta partició no es modifica mai; 8Mb)
New - Logical - 8 - Starting on toqui, + 176M (Aquest és el sistema operatiu modificat per Lacie; aquesta partició no es modifica mai; 176Mb)
New - Logical - 9 - Starting on toqui, +674M (Aquesta és la partició on treballa el LaCie, amb els diferents mòduls instal.lats, les diferents opcions que configurem, etc; 674Mb)
New - Logical - 10 - Starting on toqui, fins al final. Aquesta és una partició on treballa el Lacie per a fer temporals, etc. Almenys 8Mb, a mí me n'han quedat més.
Toggle 5 type 82 (Canviar la partició 5 a tipus Linux Swap).
dd if=lacieNS_sda6.dd of=/dev/sdc6 (Carrega la partició de PPCBoot amb el que toca, posa un altre pen drive amb aquests fitxers, mkdir /mnt2; mount /dev/sdd1/mnt2; cd /mnt2)
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda7.part a /dev/sdc7. F5 to continue... Carrega la partició 7
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda8.part a /dev/sdc8. F5 to continue... Carrega la partició 8
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda9.part a /dev/sdc9. F5 to continue... Carrega la partició 9
mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc10 (Fer el sistema de fitxers per a la partició de treball del LaCie)
mkfs.vfat /dev/sdc2 (Fer el sistema de fitxers del disc que compartirà el NAS. Alguns llocs diuen que cal formatejar amb mkfs.xfs. A mí no m'ha funcionat, en canvi amb mkfs.vfat sí).
Muntar el disc al NAS. Comprovar que boota (el llum fa pampallugues). En aquesta etapa no he aconseguit connectar-me per web. Per a saber la IP he fet servir un Portscanner. En alguna Ocasió el Lacie Network Assistant me l'ha detectat.
Apagar el disc (tarda una estona)
Resetejar el disc fent: Encendre el disc, contar 3 segons exactes, apagar-lo per l'interruptor (veure que el llum s'encen i s'apaga molt ràpid) i tornar-lo a encendre passat un segon d'apagar. Això carrega els defaults.
Esperar que carregui, al cap dun minut ja podem tenir accés per web a l'aparell. Username admin password admin
Formatejar el disc intern des de la Web. (tarda una mica)
En acabat, El Lacie Network Assistant ja el detectarà.
Actualitzar el firmware, que originalment porta el 1.1.6, fins al 1.1.8 a través del fitxer load capsule-NetworkSpace-update-1.1.3-1.1.8-r1445 descarregat de LaCie. Actualitzar a través del Lacie Network Assistant. Fa tres passos i el tercer tarda molt en acabar. Paciència.
Actualitzar el firmware, des del 1.1.8 anterior fins al 1.1.10 a través del fitxer Network Space Update Capsule 1.1.10 descarregat de LaCie. El tercer pas tarda molt en acabar, paciència.
Acabat.

NAS Recuperat.

Before installing a new SATA hard disk you'll need to install the operating system in it.

You'll need to attach the drive to a computer (I used a SATA USB adapter) and perform next operations:

Prepare a Clonezilla boot USB disk. It's very easy through TUXBOOT. This will provide all required tools. FDISK, PARTIMAGE, DD and MKFS.EXT3
Boot a computer using the Clonezilla boot USB and get to shell.
sudo -s to gain root access.
connect the replacement disk and wait 30 seconds till detected. It was mapped on /dev/sdc in my computer.
Partitioning.
fdisk /dev/sdc
New - Extended Partition - 1 - Starting at 2048, + 1G (Make an extended partition 1Gb)
New - Primary Partition - 2 - Starting wherever, till end of disk. (Make the data partition till end of disk. It worked for me using a 160Gb disk, a 500Gb disk and a 1Tb disk. I've read that the max useable disk is 2Tb)
New - logical - 5 - Starting wherever, + 128M (This is the 128Mb Linux Swap partition)
New - Logical - 6 - Starting wherever, +8M (This is the uboot / PPCBoot )
New - Logical - 7 - Starting wherever, +8Mb (This is the original operating system from the ARM processor board manufacturer. This partition is never modified; 8Mb)
New - Logical - 8 - Starting wherever, + 176M (This is the operating system modified by LaCie. This partition is never modified; 176Mb)
New - Logical - 9 - Starting wherever, +674M (This is the working operating system, with the different modules, options, configurations, settings,..; 674Mb)
New - Logical - 10 - Starting wherever, till end of partition. (This is a working partition for the Lacie to store temp files and so. Originally was 8Mb, Don't worry if it gets larger).
Toggle 5 type 82 (Toggle partition 5 to type 82 Linux Swap).
dd if=lacieNS_sda6.dd of=/dev/sdc6 (Load all the required info to partition 6; plug another pen drive with the files; mkdir /mnt2; mount /dev/sdd /mnt2; cd /mnt2)
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda7.part a /dev/sdc7. F5 to continue... (Load partition 7 data)
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda8.part a /dev/sdc8. F5 to continue... (Load partition 8 data)
/usr/sbin/partimage clonar lacieNS_sda9.part a /dev/sdc9. F5 to continue... (Load partition 9 data)
mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc10 (Prepare the filesystem at partition 10)
mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc2 (Prepare the filesystem at partition 2. This partition is the shared space the NAS offers. I've read somewhere to format mkfs.xfs but did not work for me. I formatted mkfs.vfat instead, and I managed to get it detected fine in the web interface.).
Shutdown linux and attach the disk to the LaCie Network Space. See that it boots (light is blinking and can hear the disk seeking). I was unable to connect through the web interface but could detect if working in the network using a network portscanner. Lacie Network Assistant will have trouble findding it.
Shutdown the disk (it will take some time)
Reset the disk to defaults: Start the disk, after 3 exact seconds turn the switch off, see the light blinking fast, wait 1 second and turn on again. Disk reset to defaults.
Let it boot (1 minute), you'll be able to detect it using a network portscanner. Connect to the web interface. Username admin, password admin.
Format the internal disk again using the web utility. It will take some time.
After all this, Lacie Network Assistant will detect it.
Udate firmware. It'll be at 1.1.6 version. Run the Network assistant and use the file capsule-NetworkSpace-update-1.1.3-1.1.8-r1445 to update to version 1.1.8. It takes 3 steps, the last one takes a looot of time. Take care with the firewall warnings, allow ALL them.
After 1.1.8 is loaded, you can upgrade to 1.1.10 through Network Assistant and the file Network Space Update Capsule 1.1.10 It takes 3 steps, the last one takes a looot of time.
Done.

Recovery complete. Your nas is alive again.

4: About this NAS

No és un aparell gaire satisfactori doncs la transferència no passa de 6MBytes per segon, no gaire més enllà d'un Pen Drive USB2.0. Té funcionalitats interessants de UPnP per a fer de mediaserver compartir fotos, vídeos, llibreries de iTunes, etc. Cada hora es dedica a reconstruïr la base de dades de fitxers audiovisuals de manera que sembla que l'aparell tingui vida pròpia, sempre fa coses.

This is a dog of a NAS: data throughput is about 6MBytes/second, not much faster than a USB 2.0 pen Drive. It has interesting functionallities as a UPnP mediaserver to share photos, vídeos, iTunes libraries. Every hour it rebuilds its internal media database so it is always busy.
